Welcome to Hilltop Marans, a small family run farm in the panhandle of West Virginia.

All of our Wheaton Marans are a cross between the lines of a well-known Florida breeder and a well-known Tennessee breeder.  We hope that by combining both of these lines we will strengthen the genetic base and create some stunning birds.  Our Marans are extremely friendly, non-aggressive and hardy.   The hens lay large chocolate brown eggs, somewhere between a 4 & 5 on the color scale for Marans eggs, and are good/consistent egg layers. Although a 4/5 on the color scale is good, we are working on improving egg color with each generation of bird. All of our Wheaton’s are bred to the French standard with lovely feathered shanks, and we are constantly striving to produce consistent dark egg laying hens.

So if you are interested in our eggs, chicks or hatching methods, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Although the Marans are not recognized in the United States by the American Poultry Association (APA), we are registered members of the APA.
